When the two-pillar lift just entered the market, their design was symmetrical, and the arm length of the four arms was the same. This makes the center (or center of gravity) of the car in the middle of the column. The symmetrical lift can balance the pressure on the lift pillar and bracket. They also allow wider passage distances. These two advantages make this type of lift very suitable for pickup trucks and other vehicles with long wheelbase. However, there is a disadvantage. Because the center of the vehicle (such as passenger car) is aligned with the column, the front door of the vehicle is very close to the column. When you open the front door to leave the cab, the front door may touch the column. The space to leave is very limited. To solve this problem, the lift manufacturer has designed a new model.
Asymmetric lift
In order to solve the problem of opening the door, the lift manufacturer has slightly redesigned the asymmetric lift. The front arm of asymmetric lift is slightly shorter than the rear arm. When the car is parked in the proper position of this asymmetric lift, the position of the car moves back a little, so we can easily get in and out of the door.
Conclusion
Both types of lift have their advantages. Knights generally use symmetrical design for more than 5.5 tons, and asymmetrical design for less than 5.5 tons. Knight's 4-ton floor-type lift, equipped with four three-section arms as standard, can realize symmetrical and asymmetrical lifting, and is more applicable.
